New memoirs from Fulneck, UK added to Transcription Desk!

We have been busy over the winter break, adding over 100 new memoirs from Fulneck, UK to our Transcription desk!  Some of these memoirs are not even catalogued,  so you might not find the information for these members of the Moravian Church in the larger database from Herrnhut on the “Map” page. We are working on adding the Fulneck database to the main database.
If you are interested in reading about the lives of Moravians in 18th century Yorkshire, England, you can find them here!

Learn to decipher Moravian English handwriting with Transkribus Learn

Are you intimidated by the English handwriting on these manuscripts? Help is there!

A new e-learning website, produced by the University of Innsbruck as part of the READ project, promises to help anyone and everyone get to grips with all kinds of historical handwriting. Transkribus Learn does not replace systematic paleography training but it allows users to practice reading and transcribing individual words, learning as they go.

Have a go! Even expert transcribers might learn a thing or two….

Although, there are not yet any Moravian materials on the site, there are plenty of examples to learn from that will help you with transcribing German and English 18th century handwriting.
